Maryland Coordinator's Update
October 12, 2001 10:52 PM

Hello everyone. Before I start I would like to say a couple of things.

I cannot tell you what an overwhelming response we have had. It is an incredible display of patriotism from each and every one of you. I am truely honored and humbled to be associated with a group of people who care so much for their country.

I would like to take this time to thank my two new friends who have worked very hard with putting this together. Libbie Young and Mary Fagerberg have gone above and beyond the call. You will see them quite abit on Sunday and when you do please thank them for all the hard work they have put into this.

Now on to what is going on. From reports I am getting from up North this thing is turning out to be amazing. They are on schedule and are actually ahead so they are trying to get some extra coverage maybe close to ground zero. You can see a pic on the website under the CT state. A group of high school students carrying the flag. This is what being an American is all about folks. Things should be on schedule for our run through MD.

I know many of you are asking two huge questions. The route and where am I supposed to be? The map is slow in coming for maps of NY,NJ,PA come before us. He said it should be in by tomorrow noon. Here is what I gave him to print up. Find Nottingham PA and follow Rt.1 South into MD. We will go through Conowingo and follow Rt.1 through Hickory, Kingsville,Perry Hall and into Balt.(Belair Rd. turn RT on North Ave. LT in Fulton, RT on Edmondson and left on Monroe/Wilkens Ave.) out of town towards Elkridge. Then on to Laurel,College Park and D of C. You can pull a map out and look it up. That is the route we are taking.

I thank you all for being so patient. I will be working on setting up key points along the route for people to park thier cars. We will have transportation to get people back to thier cars. Just hang in with us. We are woking as hard and fast as we can. My best advice will be if all fails you find Rt.1 and start driving North till you run into the Flag. This thing is max flexibility and we will try and get it better structured by the time Sunday rolls around. Thanks ahead for your understanding.

Things that we need.

  • WATER,WATER,WATER. Now that I have beaten that dead horse. Please when you come bring a s**t load of water or gatorade. I am going to go to the local Giant and see if they will donate some of these things for the run. If you do this I would print out some details from the website and take it in with you.
  • We also need any kinds of food like baggels, power bars, and so forth. The big thing is water.
For you trail blazers and marathoners. THIS IS NOT THE MARINE CORPS MARATHON yet. You will get your chance soon. This is Tortise city baby. All our goal is to make it to the D of C by 6 AM monday. But I will not stop you from blazing along, I may make you run around the RV as it's going forward if you are going to fast.

It looks like we will have a RV at our disposal. You can thank Bert Booth for this. It will be a place for the runners to relax on and off during the run. We have Maryland State Police providing us with an escort the whole way except through Balt. when the city police will join us. We are working on the Fire Departments for this also. Everyone is welcome and they are all welcome to grab ahold and run alittle.

I still need runners, we never have enough. For you parents who have children that want to join in by all means bring them along. I could not think of a better way to show your children what freedom is all about.

I know this is alittle long but want you to get as much info from as I can give you. Please be patient with us. I wil update tomorrow. Thank you all very much.

Semper Fi,
Brian
