New Mexico Runner's Instructions
  1. All runners need to bring a signed waiver to run. Waiver can be found at www.flagrun2001.org/waiver.html.
  2. Each runner should have an 8.5”x11” sign in their vehicle window that reads “AAmericans United Flag Run”, for identification. (Can be handwritten!) Runners in Albuq. should carry the same sign for identification at meeting locations.
  3. Plan on arriving at your meeting location (staging area) at least a half hour early.
  4. When the entourage approaches, all runners should be ready to get into runner transportation vans and bring anything you will need (extra water, jacket, etc.). Please make the exchanges quickly, the schedule doesn’t have extra time for exchanges!!
  5. The final revised runner’s schedule will have the running order to run in. Feel free to run with others if you would like to add additional mileage or trade off more frequently if the flag becomes heavy!
  6. The runner will be immediately behind a lead vehicle that will have flashing lights, and then a Command Center motor home will be following runner with 3 vans used for runner transportation. Runner will be running on right hand side of road with traffic, so hug the white line when you run!
  7. All runners running at night will be required to wear reflective vest and carry flashlight (provided).
  8. Driver will let runner know mileage and when to exchange the flag with the next runner.
  9. If anyone in your running group does not show up at the meeting location, please arrange how that person’s miles will be divided among the available runners!!
  10. When everyone in your group is done running their segment, the vans will return you to your initial meeting area where your vehicles are parked.
  11. In Albuq. all runners will meet at their designated starting location (holding their sign for identification) and get into transportation vans when the entourage arrives. Each runner runs their segment and then walks back to their personal vehicle. Groups that are running may not all fit into the transportation vans, so additional vehicles may be needed to shuttle groups to their starting location!
  12. Remember the purpose intended for this run!! It is not a race, so time is not the goal. The reason we are all giving of our time, energy, and expertise is for a unity of this country in the wake of a horrible disaster. We are all here to remember those who lost their lives on Sept. 11 and to give support in a way that we will never forget! Enjoy every minute of your run and never forget why you are running!
