Oklahoma Coordinator's Letter #2
Coordinator Letter #2 – October 20, 2001

Greetings to all Oklahoma Runners/Volunteers,

Our map and timeline is now up and running! OK Coordinators continue to work on logistics. We are excited about everything that is happening in this great state with the run. This really is the “Heartland.” We have been overwhelmed by response across the state! Remember: This run is about the people and the American flag! Everyone will get an opportunity to run. You all are awesome!

  1. OK will have 12 staging areas. Thirty to forty miles separate the legs for runners. Staging areas are:

    1)Border, 2)Ardmore, 3)Davis/Sulphur, 4)Pauls Valley, 5)Purcell, 6)Norman, 7)OKC Memorial, 8)Mustang, 9)Binger, 10)Cordell, 11)Sayre, 12)Texola.

Details will be up by Monday on site in each staging area – Watch for e-mail. We need assistance in each of these staging areas! We need water, sports drinks, snacks, etc. Volunteers can contact Dave at Vandal77@IdahoVandals.com.

  2. Runners will be assigned to meet at a staging area. This will be up soon. This will provide information on staging areas, parking, etc. All runners need to register via the main site. If there are several people running together, add that in the comment section. This will make it easier to identify “teams” of runners. If you have specific questions, please wait until after Tuesday (10/24) to ask. Then send specific requests to Fritz at amelang@peakonline.com. Plan to arrive early. Other flags are allowed, but remember proper respect for Old Glory. Join the excitement and lend a hand!

  3. We have some specific needs:
    1. Amateur Radio Operators are needed to assist with communication throughout the route. Volunteer on web site. E-mail Dave at Vandal77@IdahoVandals.com
    2. Volunteer drivers for the RV coming in with the National crew. Contact Susan at bweaver@mail.provalue.net to assist.
    3. Assistance in all staging areas – see message above to volunteer or to volunteer a spouse, friend, etc. This could include bringing drink/food. d) Gas money for the RV – we need contacts now! Any stations along the route would be great! Contact Susan at bweaver@mail.provalue.net to buy our gas!
    4. Contributions to support the route through OK in any way would be fantastic. Contact sponsors on web site to contribute.
    5. PUBLICITY – Spread the word to everyone you see! This run is for everyone. We need newspapers, radio stations, tv! If you can get the event some publicity in any way, contact Susan at bweaver@mail.provalue.net.

The stories coming in continue to bring tears and chills! OK Coordinators thank each of you for your commitment to this run! You won’t be disappointed! This really is the greatest state in the United States of America! You all have proved that once again in the past week with your enthusiasm and support!

Until Later,

Dave, Fritz, Tim, (three incredible guys!) and Susan
