To All Runners and Volunteers for the Pennsylvania portion of the Flag Run

OK, details are coming together for the first part of the state.

I will repeat an earlier message for logistical support and then provide the route and time line.

  • Cars and vans to transport runners. Please bring friends or family to assist in transporting you or other runners. We will have transportation to bring you back to your cars. The more we have the smoother the operation will be.
  • Water and food. Coffee, bagels, Power Bars and the like for the really serious athletes. Donuts. (Rumor has it that the cops like these!) Ok... it was a joke!
  • Does anyone have a connection with a bus company for use further down the run in other states? Please let me know.
  • We have Fire Dept and Police escorts, so feel safe. The more vehicles with cherries on top, the safer we will be. Makes for good show too as the world’s press will be watching. Don’t forget to smile for the cameras.
  • Does anyone have American Legion, AMVETS, military or National Guard connections? Invite them out for the run, and have them contact me for support across the US.
  • If you wish to participate in other states, please go back to the website www.flagrun2001.org. to sign up for the state(s) you are interested in.

Time Line and Assembly Info for section 1 & 2 in PA

You are NOT being assigned a time and place to assemble for the first two legs in PA. Pick one that you would like to run in and please be there. This may change as time allows. For now, it’s up to you, thanks. Leg 3 will be handled differently; it’s longer and during the day. Details soon.

Sat. Oct 13th 10:00pm NJ/PA border; First PA assembly point: The first exit in PA after the Delaware River Bridge. Runners will park and assemble at La Villa Pizza and Family Restaurant, next to Holiday Inn. This is on the north side of the road.

Sun. Oct 14th 2:00 am - Second assembly point: RT 1 and Cottman Ave in Cheltenham. This is 20.3 miles from the PA border. There is a McDonalds on the northbound side of the road.

There are NO assembly points in Philadelphia during the nighttime hours, but here’s where we be and approximate times; Rt 1 and Broad St (Rt611) 3:00 am, The Liberty Bell 4:00 am, West Chester Pike and Rt 1 City Line Ave. 5:30 am

Section 3 for PA will come to you shortly.

The Flag Run is in CT now and going great. Don’t miss out on being a part of this amazing event. Thanks.

Gary Rivenson
